Conversations with Artificial Idols (AI)

Hello! My name is Linda Wang! Thank you for stopping by! My Master’s thesis is underway and I need your help!

I have created this mock entertainment company and website to house my experiment. This experiment aims to get a feel for how fans of music/KPOP today feel about the AI music/KPOP AI idols of tomorrow! Read the instructions below and head over to the “Artists” tab to meet Jayce, my own AI idol. You can chat with him about almost anything! The chat lasts five minutes. Please screen-record your chat and submit it under the “Contact” page.

Instructions

1. Go to the Artists tab and scroll to read about Jayce.

2. Hit the Chat with Jayce button.

3. Before beginning, please begin a screen recording. Please make sure that the screen recording will pick up your voice and Jayce’s voice.

***PLEASE NOTE***
Samsung Users: a screen recording on your phone with the sound on works, but if you prefer not to record your voice, please make sure to show the chat.
iPhone Users: screen recording on your phone does not record audio. Please make sure to tap the Chat Icon.
Windows Users: Windows seems to require extra steps for sound recording. Follow this link to see how.
MAC Users: Screen record by hitting Command + Shift + 5. Do not plug in headphones.

4. Toggle the chat icon on the bottom right corner of the screen so that the transcription shows.

5. Begin your screen recording and your conversation with Jayce. Please chat with Jayce for at least 5 minutes (2 minutes is ideal, this mimics a real fan call).

6. End the session by clicking the lines at the top right corner and hit End Session.

7. Once your chat has ended, please submit the screen recording to the Dropbox under the Contact tab. Please save your file as an MP4.
.mov files tend to be too large and take a long time to upload.
Please label your file as LastName_FirstName.mp4
Example: Wang_Linda.mp4
This will help me identify whose video is which.

8. Please complete the survey under the Contact tab.

YOUR FACE WILL NOT BE IN THE RECORDING, JAYCE USES THE CAMERA TO DETECT FACIAL EXPRESSIONS SO HE KNOWS HOW TO RESPOND/REACT TO YOU. NO PERSONAL INFORMATION WILL BE SAVED OR USED FOR ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF THIS PROJECT.
